On January 12th, following the recent landmark 4th Circuit Appellate Court decision proclaiming the illegality of torture and President Obama's new Presidential Memorandum on the use of force and national security operations, the the American Red Cross International Humanitarian Law Division hosted a panel discussing the jurisprudential, legislative, and treaty-based restrictions on torture, as well as the US commitments to refrain from using any methods of torture in the future. Alongside its co-sponsors: American Society for International Law, Lieber Society, Washington College of Law, Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Anti-Torture Initiative, American Bar Association, Center for Human Rights, and Human Rights First.
